Well, it has been a VERY weird last weeks (not to mention months as this has been going on for a while), for those that doesn't know, I've been on a longer sick leave, and this Monday I officially resigned my normal "day job" after 13 years in my company.

So I need to get out some more steam on my personal pieces before I now will tackle the book cover full strength this weekend. I'm making a cover! Whoohoo!

All crits on my dearies here with the fish is of course very appreciated. :)

Ok, book covers are decided, this is to be the back of the book, if I am correct, and I am allowed to post anywhere to get feedback.

And some feedback would be nice to get, on any of the platforms you've seen this through. :)

Anything you see that flies in your face as wrong? Those flying things are at the moment currently under "reconstruction" which is why they're slightly on and off on this one. Thank you in advance. :)

So here we are again. Not much updating during the holidays, but I've done some stuff.

A small workshop for croquis and long poses

So, last Saturday I was at a workshop that had some technical input in the beginning, then some croquis drawing where we were told how to do them, and then we had two hours with a long pose. I promised I'd take some pics, I just forgot about it, sorry! :)

These are some from the first rounds of croquis, these are all one minute poses (60 secs), and drawn with right hand. These are all charcoal.

These are from when we were told to swap which hands we were drawing with, in my case to the left hand. Also one minute poses.

We also had some more with our drawing hand, my case right. One minute poses as well, as we did nothing but one minute ones for croquis on this workshop.

And here is one of the sketches on the long pose, I haven't taken photos of the end drawing yet, as I am not sure if I am at the moment working on it correctly. The work and sketches we did from the long pose should have enough information in them that I should manage to make a proper drawing from it all put together, and I *will* manage to finish it, sooner or later. :) This one is with pencil.

Since we're now several talking about putting money together to pay for long pose models, there is hope that I might be able to get my technique a bit better and approach a final image during the long pose itself, with the hours we had, I didn't really get to start on the final one, so I have to do it at home. But remember, it was the first time I had a model doing the same pose for more than three minutes! All the other life drawing I've been on has been croquis, which are 30 secs,. 1 min, 2 min and 3 min poses.

Self Portrait Day 2011

So, it's Nov 1st, and another self portrait day.

Note how I have leaned forward to get rid of excess skin and wrinkles. Also, when drawing from a mirror and you're flipping your canvas, it's hard to flip your mirror. I kept flipping it, but even though my mirror has two sides, it's just small size on one side and big size on the other, no horizontal flipping... ;)

So I ended up doing some photos as well. After a bit of liquifying and colour adjustment, this is what I have. It's soon midnight, so I have to post it. Used about three hours. I prolly should've had a better result than that within that time limit, but hell, at least it kind of looks like me. :)

As said, done.

I think it's better that I reveal my Halloween picture this year before it's done, so I can get some much wanted C&C on it. Better to get a better picture by showing it before it's done, than getting a bad one because of being stubborn. :)

It's been trough a lot of recomps and revisions, and I have several refs, so I guess I've screwed up several parts, but going blind on them.

Part of the idea here is that even monsters dress up prettily for a group picture. :)

So, all kinds of feedback would be loved on this. Blog, FB, CGHUB, email or PM, so that I can post a picture I am proud of later. :)

I always seem to see her as a kind of steampunk elf, but this is a regular one. Also, she has an absolutely wonderful voice. And for some reason I seem to be unable to do her justice.

Another update. Did another personal piece today. I know it's probably in the "clichè" area, but again, just something I had to get out.

Then I've started on something for another challenge, Illustrated on CGHUB. Tarot cards. I thought I'd do a card I haven't done yet, since this pops up every now and then in challenges, and I go for something from the minor arcana. After I worked on it and manage to pin the start of my idea yesterday, I suddenly remember that I have indeed done the Queen of Wands before, it was actually the first tarot card I did, with Medusa as the queen. Guess the card is strong for me. ;)

Then a random non-important warm up, just to show I don't go straight for details... :P

And lastly, I started to do angels for the 2D drawing jam at CGHUB, the idea being that they had to be the best illusionists ever to get the standing they have today, but I think I'm just ending up with magicians with angel wings bought at the nearest supermarket....

This is a piece I worked on this evening, personal. I don't think I'll do anything more about it, I just needed to get things out of my system.

This ended up being my final on the oracle piece in CharacterFORGE.

And this is what I've got so far on the next CFORGE challenge, Sky Pirates. Quiiiiite a long way to go yet...

I was of a mind to start all over again, but with a couple of other projects and not that much time to do anything at all, I tried to go sepia-ish/ old photo and it least get what looks like a finished piece before the deadline.

So, I have vacation. Even if we're digging all around our house (drainage) and getting up early in the morning, I'm now done with the Fairytale Re-Imagination deadline and I *do* have a babysitter (my mum is over to help me with kiddo during day and will get up early tomorrow) - so I'm using this one evening having a bit of rum and doing whatever I like drawingwise.

This is what I've done so far tonight.You can say whatever you want (C&C is ALWAYS appreciated) but at least it's not brown. ;)

I've let this one lay because I was slightly frustrated, but I just looked at the calendar and realised there's not many left of this challenge.

It was a bit too clean and whatnot.. I've just messed around to see what kind of ideas I can get. I want the mermaids too look a bit more "otherworldly" to set off against the diver.

And I learned something new! Greyish "pure" blue looks red in this colours. :)

Here's what I've posted so far... Hoping to do more this weekend.

"After doing some sketches and such last evening after thinking for a couple of days, doing a lot of "clever" ideas transforming fairy tales, the only thing that really had any potential this morning was Snow White and Rose Red under water, so that's what I'm doing.

So. Way too much things going lately that's NOT art. But Tristan Elwell posted a link today. To THIS - How to steal like an artist and 9 other things nobody told me. And I read the sentence that said "Write what you want to read". So I drew what I wanted to have on my walls for the last hours. And the thing that really has my passion when it comes to drawing, is these symmetric mask/head/headgear thingies that I've been doing for years and can't put down. So I did those. And here's a few of the sketches I did today.

So, more than grinding on specific things to get better, I needed some drawing therapy. And this is one of the doodles that came out the last four hours. Between a couple of glasses of red wine. So after several really bad attempts of getting things to work, I'm back to, if not square one, at least square two. Running out of time and having less time to work with this than originally thought - I have to go with this now I think. And make a proper image out of these. I was making a corrupted to go with the techno mage after ditching the shadow, did several changes on the mage, and then now I'm back at basically what I posted last time on the mage, and a war general. The only character that I was sure I wasn't gonna make, heh.

Oh well, crossing my fingers I'll finish this even if I'm gone half of next week.

Heh, another update. These are coming faster than they should, but I'm trying to push as much drawing as possible now for this as I don't know how much time I'll have after this week to get it done. After getting some input on the design on the image posted in the last post, I decided to kind of merge them.

I'm kind of going blind on it now though, so I'll do another character while I let this one rest. I need input to help me make sure if I'm going in the right direction or not, this is a high hanging contest with tons of participants that'll kick my ass thoroughly. But you know, I still wanna do the best that I can.

I was gonna do shadow and corrupted for this (have to chose two out of four classes), but somehow I've ended up doing technomages instead. A start, at least.

Ink and brush

Dragged out my India Ink yesterday, and decided to something traditional for once. I used to use my inkwell a lot with a brush, but it's been ages and ages. And I could feel that while working - and see it on the end result - but it's nice doing it again. :)

Here's also the pencil sketch I used, I transferred the image over to inking paper.

Colour/animal study

So, to do what I've been doing mostly every day lately (but in other situations...), I decided to "do something I don't know how to do" when it came to drawing as well - drawing a white animal. Another study that was meant to be a fast warm up that lasted a bit longer, but again a pretty fast image for me.

This is Turak and Bast while they were puppy and kitten. Turak is dads dog, a Samojed that didn't know when he was supposed to stop grow, and is today a smashing 55 kilos. (That's waaaay more than a Samo should weigh, but he has the right proportions - he just happens to be a giant.) The cat is what used to be my cat, but after we switched houses I didn't dare take him with me because we were afraid he'd start trekking over the road between the houses. So since these two came to us with two days in between and basically grew up together (obviously, from the picture) he stayed where dad is living now.

Anyways, on to next drawing. :)

Fast colour study

Decided to make a colour study to warm up today, ended up working on it a bit longer than I intended, but it's a pretty fast image to be me. It's based on some photos of an old run down house we took this summer before it was torn down. Really liked because it was very clear that it had been enlarged several times over the years and you could see the different decades that had happened on how it was built. I prolly missed a ton of subtle things and went over with big paws on other stuff, but I think I need to that more so I can learn to focus on the right things. I tend to overdo things, especially details... Not today. :)

Calendar for breast cancer

Over at Not Your Fathers Pin Up they're making a calendar for charity, more specifically raising money for breast cancer awareness and research.

It's a nice opportunity to get some of your art out there - or just to get some good karma.

I'm gonna try to have something done before Nov 30th myself, and I've been thinking about brushing up these two as well as another one that I have going. This being a perfect time for me to get some drawing done as I just had my last day at my "day job" yesterday. The first one is an earlier ChOW entry that I thought I could fix all the things not done with before the deadline for submission a while back. This image has grown on me after I did it, and I'd like to see it in a more finished version anyway. The other one is a sketch I got so far based on my mother, and she's said it's OK for me to use it if I'd like.

Just crossing my fingers for these actually counting as "pin ups", hehe. And that I can make them fit the size needed. :)
