A small workshop for croquis and long poses

So, last Saturday I was at a workshop that had some technical input in the beginning, then some croquis drawing where we were told how to do them, and then we had two hours with a long pose. I promised I'd take some pics, I just forgot about it, sorry! :)

These are some from the first rounds of croquis, these are all one minute poses (60 secs), and drawn with right hand. These are all charcoal.

These are from when we were told to swap which hands we were drawing with, in my case to the left hand. Also one minute poses.

We also had some more with our drawing hand, my case right. One minute poses as well, as we did nothing but one minute ones for croquis on this workshop.

And here is one of the sketches on the long pose, I haven't taken photos of the end drawing yet, as I am not sure if I am at the moment working on it correctly. The work and sketches we did from the long pose should have enough information in them that I should manage to make a proper drawing from it all put together, and I *will* manage to finish it, sooner or later. :) This one is with pencil.

Since we're now several talking about putting money together to pay for long pose models, there is hope that I might be able to get my technique a bit better and approach a final image during the long pose itself, with the hours we had, I didn't really get to start on the final one, so I have to do it at home. But remember, it was the first time I had a model doing the same pose for more than three minutes! All the other life drawing I've been on has been croquis, which are 30 secs,. 1 min, 2 min and 3 min poses.

A male for once

I couldn't sleep. Annoying.

I have done so many ladies lately that I wanted to a man.

Started out as a photo ref, then I went a bit overboard, again.

At least it's a male. And a good looking one at that, I hope.

TGIF?

Did something tonight. I kind of liked it. :)

Still trying to figure out the light/shadow thing. :)

Self Portrait Day 2011

So, it's Nov 1st, and another self portrait day.

Note how I have leaned forward to get rid of excess skin and wrinkles. Also, when drawing from a mirror and you're flipping  your canvas, it's hard to flip your mirror. I kept flipping it, but even though my mirror has two sides, it's just small size on one side and big size on the other, no horizontal flipping... ;)

So I ended up doing some photos as well. After a bit of liquifying and colour adjustment, this is what I have. It's soon midnight, so I have to post it. Used about three hours. I prolly should've had a better result than that within that time limit, but hell, at least it kind of looks like me. :)

Happy Halloween!

So, I am done with this, I think if I do anything more with it, I'll start ruin it. :)

So HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE! :D

Halloween 2011 - WIP

As said, done.

I think it's better that I reveal my Halloween picture this year before it's done, so I can get some much wanted C&C on it. Better to get a better picture by showing it before it's done, than getting a bad one because of being stubborn. :)

It's been trough a lot of recomps and revisions, and I have several refs, so I guess I've screwed up several parts, but going blind on them.

Part of the idea here is that even monsters dress up prettily for a group picture. :)

So, all kinds of feedback would be loved on this. Blog, FB, CGHUB, email or PM, so that I can post a picture I am proud of later. :)

Some more prework urban fairytale/folklore

Some more work. Was gonna do thumbs today, but ended up working more on the first image I posted last time, I kind of liked it. A bit stuck on night time colours though, heh.

Two WIP thumbs

Just wanted to post these, as I am currently in a kind of a "project" with some Finnish writers, and we're tossing ideas back and forth. The main idea is folklore and fairytales set in todays world. :)

Ms Time

Another personal piece. Started out as another "just painting a face without reference" but pulled out a few to get it right. :)

Not that much to show today, really.

Not that much to show today, really.

Random warm up sketches that didn't come out too well:

A warm up that I might take further:

And then lastly the start of a portrait I'm trying to do of Jazz (Jasmine Wongus), who has this kind of ethereal beauty that I do not seem able to convey. I always seem to see her as a kind of steampunk elf, but this is a regular one. Also, she has an absolutely wonderful voice. And for some reason I seem to be unable to do her justice.

Salamander

I don't really feel like working on it any more, so then I guess it's done. :)

Also, seems I forgot to put the finished version of the pirates in here, so I'll do that too. I literally didn't have a single more minute to work on it, and didn't feel it was finished, but submitted anyway. And to my surprise I even got me some votes.:)

Monday, 26 September 2011

There seems to be some hair. And a salamander.

Another thingy I'm doing all for myself. Just started to do this one and went with the flow without having any photo reference, so there might be "some" weird bits. Still in progress.

More updates! And personal stuff.

Another update. Did another personal piece today. I know it's probably in the "clichè" area, but again, just something I had to get out.

Then I've started on something for another challenge, Illustrated on CGHUB. Tarot cards. I thought I'd do a card I haven't done yet, since this pops up every now and then in challenges, and I go for something from the minor arcana. After I worked on it and manage to pin the start of my idea yesterday, I suddenly remember that I have indeed done the Queen of Wands before, it was actually the first tarot card I did, with Medusa as the queen. Guess the card is strong for me. ;)

Then a random non-important warm up, just to show I don't go straight for details... :P

And lastly, I started to do angels for the 2D drawing jam at CGHUB, the idea being that they had to be the best illusionists ever to get the standing they have today, but I think I'm just ending up with magicians with angel wings bought at the nearest supermarket....

Words... Cats and oracles... and pirates. The sky kind.

This is a piece I worked on this evening, personal. I don't think I'll do anything more about it, I just needed to get things out of my system.

This ended up being my final on the oracle piece in CharacterFORGE.

And this is what I've got so far on the next CFORGE challenge, Sky Pirates. Quiiiiite a long way to go yet...

Saturday, 3 September 2011

Oracle finished soon I hope.

I was of a mind to start all over again, but with a couple of other projects and not that much time to do anything at all, I tried to go sepia-ish/ old photo and it least get what looks like a finished piece before the deadline.

Anything glaring at you as being "WRONG!" please tell before the 5th. :)

The Oracle - CharacterFORGE

Wanna try to make an image for the current CharacterFORGE, seems there's enough time that I'll manage to finish it.

Going for a little more subtle approach. :)

Pretty quick assembling of a sketch here... C&C always appreciated, especially before starting to go into details.:)

Kronprinsesse Märtha

So, I didn't have too much time today, and settled on doing a quick photostudy of our former crown princess Märtha. (28 March 1901 – 5 April 1954). Beautiful woman that I did not do justice. My painting and the photo ref:

Random ladies

I did some random women. Photorefs for their faces, then threw random clothing on them.

I have a tendency to draw white women as that is what I am myself, want to fix that. But need photos to get anywhere on that at the moment.

Final - and my new one.

So, I have vacation. Even if we're digging all around our house (drainage) and getting up early in the morning, I'm now done with the Fairytale Re-Imagination deadline and I *do* have a babysitter (my mum is over to help me with kiddo during day and will get up early tomorrow) - so I'm using this one evening having a bit of rum and doing whatever I like drawingwise.

This is what I've done so far tonight. You can say whatever you want (C&C is ALWAYS appreciated) but at least it's not brown. ;)

This is what ended up as my final on the Fairytale thing, just a few tweaks from what I posted before. :)

Final for now

My final for now I think. I might have an hour or two to work on it later, so crits might not be too late. :)

Last Effort

So, currently doing the last run on this thing as the deadline is in just hours.

If you see any glaring mistakes or things that looks awkward, this is the time to shout out to me. :)

More fairytale reimagining

I've let this one lay because I was slightly frustrated, but I just looked at the calendar and realised there's not many left of this challenge.

It was a bit too clean and whatnot.. I've just messed around to see what kind of ideas I can get. I want the mermaids too look a bit more "otherworldly" to set off against the diver.

And I learned something new! Greyish "pure" blue looks red in this colours. :)

C&C as always much appreciated.

Stay free and democratic, Norway.

Here's what I guess is the final version unless anyone sees any glaring mistakes. I've come to the point where I am afraid I'll ruin it nitpicking it in the wrong places.

Today was ...

... a bad day for Norway.

When first painting, I decided I might as well continue on the one I started on Wednesday.

Thursday, 21 July 2011

And this...

... is what I have for tonight. Went slow the last hours.

Was busy running around in websites I don't belong to anymore.

It's been....

... that kind of day. Week. Month. Whatever.

Thank goodness I have my drawing.

Work in progress.

Zombie Bride Final

This is where I have to stop work on it, I'll be at work when the deadline is due, and I won't have any more time to do anything else. I kind of like the whole idea of it, so I'm happy with it. :)

Tuesday, 5 July 2011

Zombie bride!

So, I thought I might enter this weeks 2D jam at CGHUB since I'm stuck at home basically not moving around if I can help it these last days. Gonna start detailing this thing a bit more now, but if you got any crits, I'm happy to hear them! :) (And no, I'm not  sure if I'll keep the thing behind her head or not...)
